John Emmett Bunch, 83, of Sun City, Texas, formerly of Midland, Texas for 38 years, passed away in Temple, Texas on June 6, 2005 after a brief illness. Mr. Bunch was born on May 22, 1922 in Memphis, Texas to Henry Franklin and Alma Vivian Taylor Bunch. He married his wife of 54 years, Kathleen Phillips Bunch, in Amarillo, Texas on December 30, 1950. Mr. Bunch is survived by his wife, Kathleen Bunch of Sun City, Texas; a daughter, Norma Kay Glenn and husband, Bob of The Woodlands, Texas; a son, Mark Bunch and wife, Rosemary, of Houston, Texas; grandchildren, Kathleen Glenn of McLean, Virginia, Robby Glenn of The Woodlands, Texas, Daniel Bunch of Houston, Texas, and Victoria Bunch of Houston, Texas; close family friend, Nancy Houston of Levelland, Texas; brothers, Olin Bunch of Snyder, Texas and Henry Larry Bunch of Odessa, Texas; sisters, Ellen Jo Jeans of Denton, Texas, Mary Lou McDonald of Vernon, Texas, and Doris Green of Oregon. He is preceded in death by his parents and a granddaughter, Hailey Bunch.

Mr. Bunch was a veteran of the United States Navy where he was a radioman on the TBM Avenger flying off the USS Cowpens in the Pacific Theater and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for his service. Following his service in World War II, Mr. Bunch received his Bachelor of Science in Petroleum Engineering from Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas. Mr. Bunch was a lifetime member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers and a member of the Texas Tech Alumni Association. He was a Division Conservation Coordinator in the Oil & Gas Division for Conoco in Midland, Texas, and he retired from Conoco in 1985 after almost 35 years of service.

Mr. Bunch was active in the Joy Sunday School Class of the First Baptist Church in Georgetown, and he was also a member of the parking lot committee at the church. He was a member of the Sun City Woodworking shop where he enjoyed making cars for the Toys for Tots program. He and his wife enjoyed square dancing and were active members of the Sun City Dancers.

Memorials may be made in his name to the First Baptist Church Georgetown Building Fund or to Cal Farley's Boys Ranch in Amarillo, Texas. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 7, 2005 from 6-8 p.m. at The Gabriels Funeral Chapel, Georgetown, Texas. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, June 8, 2005 at 1:30 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Georgetown, 1333 West University Avenue in Georgetown with Reverend David Griffin and Dr. Jim Haskell as officiating ministers. Internment services will be private.
