JUDGE (Ret.) NEIL MCKAY, 84, of Houston, passed away Saturday, February 2, 2002. Judge McKay was born on August 17, 1917 in Sulphur Springs, Texas to Glenna Worsham McKay and William Calvin McKay. He received a B.A. from East Texas State College in 1938 and a LL.B. from Southern Methodist University in 1948. He was named outstanding young man of the year by the Mt. Pleasant Jr. Chamber of Commerce in 1941. He was a High School teacher in Mt. Pleasant, TX from 1938-1943 and in Texarkana, TX in 1943. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army Cavalry Division during World War II from 1943-1946. He became Hopkins County Attorney in 1949. He served as Assistant District Attorney for Harris County and Chief Prosecutor Criminal District Court No.3. Judge McKay was appointed to the bench in 1974 and retired from Harris County Criminal Court of Law #5 in 1986. He was a member of District and County Attorney's Association of Texarkana, TX, N.E. Texas and Houston Bar Associations. He was a 33 degree Mason and member of the Holland Lodge No. 1, A.F. & A. M. and a Shriner. He was also a member of the American Legion and Veteran of Foreign Wars.

Neil was preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years, Ann E. McKay and his brother, Kenneth McKay. He is survived by his son, Charles McKay and wife, Lynda; his grandchildren, Scott McKay and Glenna McKay; and cousin, Peggy Hopkins. Friends may call for visitation from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 5, 2002 at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, 13001 Katy Freeway, where Funeral Services will be held at 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, February 6, 2002 with Rev. Leonard Negrin officiating. Masonic Services will be under the auspices of Holland Lodge No.1, A.F. & A.M. Interment Services will follow in Memorial Oaks Cemetery.
