BOYD
Jerry Harlan Boyd of Houston,
Texas passed away on October 24, 2011 at the age of 80. He was born in
Sinton, Texas on June 29, 1931 to Claude and Lucille Boyd. Jerry is survived
by his beloved wife of 52 years, Caroline, his sister Jolene Boyd, his five
children, Kevin Boyd, Chris Boyd, Rebecca Boyd, Valerie Boyd Simank, and
Holly Boyd Bullington, his two sons in law, Steve Simank and John Bullington,
his daughter in law Sherri Boyd, and his four grandchildren, Mariah, Meghan,
Jack and Finn.
He served his country in the United
States Navy during the Korean
War. After receiving an Honorable Discharge, he attended the University
of Texas at Austin where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in
Geology.His ardor for the history and evolution of our earth embarked an
accomplished career as a geologist, highlighted by his 30 year tenure at
Harrison Interests, a private oil and gas company, until he retired in 1998.
His passions included: his dog Buddy, deep water sea fishing, genealogy,
stamp, coin and Staffordshire pottery collecting, clothes shopping,Texas
football and all things Scottish. He loved to cook. He was a devoted
husband, supportive son and brother, loving father, adoring grandfather and
loyal friend. He will be deeply missed.
Visitation will be 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Oct. 29 at Forest Park Westheimer
Funeral Home. A memorial service will be celebrated at 2:00 p.m on Sunday,
October 30th at St. Paul's Methodist Church, 5501 Main Street, Houston, TX
77019. After the memorial, a burial service will follow directly at Forest
Park Westheimer Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jerry's name to Cal Farley's
Boy's Ranch P.O Box 1890 Amarillo, Tx. 79174-0001.
