Gilbert Artie Barton, Jr.

SAN ANTONIO — Gilbert A. Barton Jr. went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2006, in the San Antonio VA hospital. He was born on June 13, 1926, in St. Lander, Louisiana, to Gilbert Barton and Annie Mae Whatley Barton. Gilbert served in the U.S. Air Force during Korea and was honorably discharged in 1955. He was a part of the 34th bomber squadron which is now the Thunderbirds. He was a life member of the VFW. Gilbert was a member and a deacon at First Baptist Church of Ingram. He retired from Gray Tool Company in Houston and from Mooney Aircraft. Gilbert married Ruby Le Jeune on Feb. 4, 1950, in Jennings, Louisiana. They moved to Mountain Home in 1981.

He is survived by his children, Wayne Barton and wife Brenda of Houston, Texas, Sharon Carlson of Jamestown, New York, and Ronald Barton of Kerrville, Texas; sister, Yvonne Webb and husband James of Houston, Texas; four grandchildren, Jason, Erin, Crystal and Stacey; five great-grandchildren, Bri Ana, McKayla, Wesley, Sawyer and Micah; and many other family members and friends who love him will miss him. He is preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert and Annie Barton; wife, Ruby; and grandson, David.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, 2006, at First Baptist Church, Ingram, with Pastor Jimmy Allen officiating. Military honor interment will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 13, 2006, at San Jacinto Cemetery in Houston.
